Meet The Facilitator

Abigail Jorgensen, M.A.,
CD-L(ProDoula)

Hi, I'm Abby, Mother Well's support group facilitator! My passion for supporting families is what drives my work as a doula (specializing in birth and bereavement) and as a PhD candidate in sociology (studying families and how they relate to governments). As the oldest of five kids and as a babysitter/nanny throughout high school and college, I saw early on how hard it is to be a parent. While working on my doctorate, I saw how much family formation is an epicenter for those challenges. I wanted to help in a hands-on way, so I took a birth doula training and fell in love with the work.
I am also a bereavement doula. I inherited a devotion to walking with people in grief from my mom. Growing up, she would take me and my siblings to every funeral we could attend in our community, in order to make sure no one ever grieved alone. As I saw more and more families experiencing the loss of a child, throughout my college years and beyond, I drew on that desire to make sure they never grieve alone by becoming a bereavement doula. My dedication to helping families in this situation has been furthered by becoming a loss mom myself and by studying child loss as part of my research.
I'm also a lifelong learner (currently working toward my childbirth education certification) and a big fan of Star Trek. I live on a little city lot in South Bend, Indiana, with my husband, our daughter, two dogs, a cat, and five chickens. You can reach out to me through my website or my Instagram page.
